Update on The Laran Gambit

I just finished the first draft of The Laran Gambit, the next Darkover novel. Whew! Now to take a little time off to play and then dive into re-reading it and the first revision (which will include making sure the characters' names and eye colors are consistent, that the same conversation doesn't occur 12 times in as many chapters, that there aren't too many plot idiocies and so forth).

I am majorly proud of myself at the moment.

    1. Happy author smile! Waiting now for the approval from The Marion Zimmer Literary Works Trust, and then off to DAW.

    2. I'm so sorry. I know it's frustrating. The last time I spoke with my editor at DAW, she was planning on 2022 for The Laran Gambit and 2023 for Arilinn. I'll touch base with her again near the end of the year. Hopefully, there won't be any further delays.

  4. Sorry, I don't. I queried my editor a couple of weeks ago, and it's on her schedule to read. That's all I know... Meanwhile, I'm about 40K words into Arilinn.

How would it be if I included a snippet of The Laran Gambit in my next newsletter?

  5. Thanks for the reply! That would be great! I'm always up for a preview. The very first book I read when I was a teen was Star of Danger so Ive been a fan of the Darkover series for a long time. Thanks again!

    1. Alas, no news. But I'm halfway through the next one, Arilinn, so there is plenty of Darkover in the works...

    1. Right now, Arilinn is the last novel I have a contract for. When I spoke with my editor at WorldCon 2018, she was enthusiastic about continuing the series beyond that, so I'm hopeful. I'll chew over ideas with her and my agent, of course, but it would be fun to do a whole series of "founding of the Towers" stories, going back to the rise of the Comyn as the ruling caste and exploring new terrain, such as Temora on the coast.

    2. Do It...!!!
Sounds Like A Fantastic Idea And Better Yet It Keeps Dakover Alive.

  9. I am so waiting for these two to be published - it was so long, that I had to imagine stories in my head to be on my favourite world (still have to).

Thank you for continuing. Pity that they are no longer translated.
(Please don't mind my mistakes - not my native language) Greetings from Germany -

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I've just heard that The Laran Gambit will be scheduled for some time in 2021. I'll post more about that and other news in my newsletter. Meanwhile, my collection of my own Darkover short fiction is available, A Heat Wave in the Hellers, and Other Tales of Darkover.

And your English is perfectly fine, much better than my German!

    1. The Laran Gambit is still scheduled for 2022 and Arilinn for 2023. The pandemic has publishing in a turmoil, so that may change. I'm nearly done with the draft of Arilinn and hope to turn it in this spring or early summer. It has to be approved by Marion's Literary Trust first, so that's an extra step.
