Hamilton, Paolo Bacigalupi (Clockwork Girl).

Some writers you might already know are still turning out great stories: Greg Bear, Greg Benford, David Brin, Kim Stanley Robinson, Walter John Williams.

Some steampunk has an sfnal feel, sort of like H. G. Wells: Jay Lake (Mainspring), Cherie Priest (Boneshaker), Seeven Harper (Doomsday Vault).

Other suggestions, writers I don't know so well: John Love, Paul McAuley, Edward Willett, Jeff Carlson, V. M. Zito, Stephen John, Greg Egan.

My list is a bit short on military sf because I don't read much of it.

I suggest checking out the smaller presses like Night Shade Books, Subterranean, and the like, because they're doing excellent "midlist" (ie, not NYT Besteller thrillers) sf.

Maybe others here can offer more suggestions. I wonder if the question means something different to a reader who finds plenty of great sf, both new and classic, or a writer who's struggling to find a publisher and getting told to write fantasy instead.Deborah J. It smacks of a certain elitism, and that the person is so important in their own lives that they expect someone to find an acceptable answer, and therefore do their own research for them ... or maybe I'm feeling cynical today.widdershinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04205462833259334647noreply@blogger.com
