Certainly, in contemporary America we value the individual over the group, so it would be interesting to see what the parallel is in cultures that value the group over the individual. I see a challenge in shifting metaphorical gears because even in "realistic" fiction, the protagonist is indeed a window through which each individual reader experiences the story.Deborah J. Maybe that is because we, as a society, think more of the individual than the group or the 'chosen' people. Just a thought.
