Writing Thought of the Day

"No one else in the wide world, since the dawn of time, has ever seen the world as you do, or can explain it as you can. This is what you have to offer that no one else can. Nobody can know how good you are unless you risk letting them know how bad you might be." -- Edith Laydon

The painting is Brace's Rock, Brace's Cove, 1864, by Fitz Hugh Lane (1804-1865), in the public domain.

  1. That sounds like a different twist on something I read not that long ago, in response to someone saying they were afraid of making mistakes with their first draft.
"Write a bad novel. Once it's written, then you can revise."

  2. That is so true! If you're taking chances, pushing yourself right over the edge, you will inevitably write utter drek as well as utter brilliance. The secret is to let 'er rip and then sort it out later.
